OKOUME

Okoume (Aucoumea klaineana) is a tropical hardwood native to Central Africa, primarily harvested from Gabon. It's valued for its lightweight properties, uniform grain, and excellent workability. When used in marine-grade plywood, Okoume offers a high strength-to-weight ratio and reliable stability under moisture exposure. It's a preferred core material for boatbuilding and is widely used in both commercial and recreational marine construction.

CERTIFIED QUALITY
Manufactured to BS 1088 standards and approved by Lloyd’s Register, ensuring compliance with marine-grade performance requirements.
LIGHTWEIGHT STRENGTH
Built with rotary-cut okoume throughout the core, offering balanced strength while keeping panels lighter and easier to handle than many other hardwood options.
WATERPROOF BONDING
Constructed with WBP Type 1 phenolic adhesive, offering long-term resistance to moisture and boiling water.
MARINE APPLICATIONS

Well-suited for hulls, planking, and exterior joinery where reduced weight and stability are important in construction.

CORE
The core is built entirely from rotary-cut okoume hardwood veneers of uniform density and thickness, ensuring balanced construction and minimizing voids. This through-and-through composition provides structural integrity for marine and exterior use.

FACE
The face and back are manufactured from rotary-cut okoume veneers, sanded on both sides to achieve a uniform, smooth finish. Whole-piece construction provides a clean appearance without splicing, while the even texture of okoume offers a stable base for finishing or lamination in marine applications.

ADHESIVE
Panels are bonded with WBP Type 1 phenolic resin, a waterproof adhesive formulated to resist boiling water, high humidity, and prolonged moisture exposure. This resin ensures permanent bonds between veneers, making it suitable for exterior and marine-grade applications.

EDGE
Manufactured with an all-okoume solid core that carries through to the edges, reducing the chance of gaps or filler. Minimal voids ensure clean machining, strong fastener holding, and reliable performance in marine construction.
